The American Physical Society, a leading publisher of scientific journals, based in Suffolk County, LI, (LIE exit 68 - near Brookhaven National Laboratory) seeks a Programmer/Analyst. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small team that is responsible for building dynamic web applications for scholarly publishing.
Requirements:
* Experience with full lifecycle development in Ruby, Python, or Perl.
* Excellent object oriented design and implementation skills.
* Strong unix skills (Linux/FreeBSD/Mac OS X preferred).
* Experience building dynamic websites with MVC frameworks (Rails, Merb, Mason, Django, Zope, etc.).
* Experience configuring web servers and deploying applications (Apache, nginx, lighttpd, etc.).
* Knowledge of XHTML, CSS, Javascript.
* Strong data modeling and SQL skills (MySQL preferred).
* Knowledge of test/behavior driven development and tools (RSpec, Test::Unit, JUnit, etc.).
Bonus points:
* Experience with O/R mapping tools such as DataMapper, ActiveRecord, Hibernate, etc.
* Experience with XML, XSLT, XPath.
* Some experience with Java.
* Experience with developing AJAX driven applications (especially using the jQuery library).
* Experience using the Drupal content management system.
* Agile development practices: test first, automated builds, rapid prototyping, etc.
